O’KANE PRESENTS HOLYROOD MOTION TO NEILSTON BOYS BRIGADE COMPANY

Local MSP Paul O’Kane has presented 1st Neilston Boys Brigade Company with a Holyrood motion that celebrates its 70th anniversary.

In October O’Kane published a Scottish Parliament motion to highlight the history and longevity of the company and the impact it’s had on the young people of Neilston.

On Friday 17th O’Kane attended an evening meeting of company where he presented them with a framed copy of the motion.

Commenting MSP for West Scotland Region Paul O’Kane said:

“The (1st Neilston Boys Brigade) Company is one of great local recreational institutions that generations of young people have enjoyed and learned from. 

“It was a pleasure to deliver the motion to them and let them know that the Scottish Parliament officially recognises the history and longevity of the company and the impact it has had on Neilston”.

Commenting Development and Engagement Worker for Boys Brigade Fiona Spooner said:

“We were delighted to receive our copy of my parliamentary motion in recognition of all the work being done within our community. 

“The Company has been supported by a large number of volunteers over the last 70 years, this motion recognises their commitment and dedication to the young people of our amazing community. 

“It also celebrates all of the young people who have been part of Boys’ Brigade in Neilston over the years and gives thanks for each of them.”

Title: 1st Neilston Boys Brigade Company Reaches 70th Anniversary

That the Parliament understands that the 1st Neilston Boys Brigade Company is celebrating its 70th year in 2024; further understands that the company is holding a special dedication service and lunch on 13 October to mark the remarkable milestone; notes that the Boys Brigade in Neilston became a reformed company in 1954, after the original company failed to continue after the outbreak of the First World War; recognises that, today, the company strives to offer young people a place where they can feel safe and the opportunity to explore their own community whilst having fun; further recognises that it is a thriving company, with 20 anchors, 28 juniors, 8 company section boys and 10 leaders; congratulates the company on being part of the Neilston community for the last 70 years, and wishes it the very best in continuing to be part of the community in the future.
