Scottish Labour MSP Paul O’Kane has hailed the festive efforts of NellyBoxes Baby Bank in a Holyrood motion.
The motion highlights the amazing contribution the baby bank made by collecting gifts for children and young people at Christmas for the second year in a row.
The motion also notes the “kindness and generosity” of the local organisations and groups that provided gifts for the collection
Commenting Scottish Labour MSP Paul O’Kane said:
“NellyBoxes is special and everyone in the local area knows of it and many, many families benefit from it”
“Not only has it done this commendable collection at Christmas for two years in a row but every week it ensures essentials for babies are available to the local community”
“Nicola McGowan’s initiative and hard work has turned a great idea into a service that so many people in the community cherish”
“Coming back to Parliament, I naturally wanted to highlight the people who went above and beyond at the Christmas period and it’s clear that NellyBoxes and all the generous individuals and organisations who contributed to their appeal are a perfect example”
“I’m glad that my MSP colleagues will read about NellyBoxes and hopefully the story of their wonderful work over Christmas will spread far and wide as a result”

Title: East Renfrewshire Baby Bank Successfully Collects for Young People and Children for Second Year in a Row
Motion Text:
That the Parliament understands that NellyBoxes East Ren Baby Bank collected donations for 138 children and young people over the Christmas period; further understands that the baby bank hung tags from its Christmas Tree situated in Auchenback Resource Centre, which gave information about each young person; celebrates that each tag was taken and all gift pledges were made by local individuals and organisations; understands that, in addition to collecting gifts for children and young people, the baby bank also hosted an “affordable Christmas party” for local families facing a shortage of money; notes that the baby bank, which runs on Wednesdays from 11.30am to 1pm and provides free nappies, wipes, formula, clothes and other supplies, was established by Nicola McGowan in 2022; understands that Nicola McGowan was inspired to create the baby bank shortly after becoming a mother and realising that there was not a local baby bank; believes that NellyBoxes East Ren Baby Bank demonstrates the kindness and generosity that so many local people are ready to show at Christmas time, and wishes it every success in continuing to deliver what it sees as a vital service for local people for years to come.
