About Paul
Born in Paisley and raised in Neilston, Paul attended St Luke’s High School in Barrhead where he was Head Boy. From there he went on to study at the University of Glasgow for an MA (Hons) in English Literature and Politics.
After University, Paul worked in a number of roles in the voluntary sector.
In 2012, Paul was elected to East Renfrewshire Council to represent Neilston, Newton Mearns North and Neilston. He also served as Vice Convener for Education and Equalities. From 2017, he served as Leader of the Labour Group on East Renfrewshire Council, Depute Leader of the Council and Convener for Education and Equalities.
In 2021, Paul was elected to serve as an MSP for West Scotland via the Regional List. He currently serves as Scottish Labour’s Shadow Minister for Public Health and Social Care and Depute Convener of the Parliament’s Health, Social Care and Sport Committee.
Paul’s interests in Parliament include health, young people, equalities and learning disability.
